Afraid to close progams

When i click to close a program in task manager a warning appears saying " Terminating can cause undesired results including loss of data and system instability" is it safe to close the program?Also some programs seem to be duplicated such as..IEXPLORE.EXE (shows 3 times) LEXPPS.EXE(twice), a few others.

Deja vu all over again.
Click YES. XP won't let you close anything it does not
want closed.
