When i logged into my pc today i noticed that my msn messanger was not
signing in,after repeated attempts i got a message suggesting that i did a
virus scan, which i did. It turned out that i have 4 infected files all
adware. How do i find out whether i need these files? I Have just changed
internet providers and not sure whether any of it is to do with some of the
files that came with that pack.

For each of your infected files:
Go to google.com and search "what is <filname.ext>"
you will/should get LOTS or results for legitimate files, and some for known
masqueraders.
Once you have determined what is what, then you can proceed with cleaning or
replacing (it is possible to extract individual files from the Windows
cabinet files off of the CD is you have to go that far back.)
You can also try going to http://www.lavasoft.com/ and click on the Threat
Assessment Chart link Under RESOURCES (near the bottom) in the left column
and see what you find out about your "infected" files there.

If you want to, you can go to these sites and scan the ISP software for
possible parasites (free!):

http://www.webroot.com/ (click FREE SpyWare scan in upper right corner of pg)
