Intend to do a complete upgrade of an old computer (P3 933MHz Pavilion HP,
MX420 PCI graphics, 40G 7200 Hard drive, pagefile on another 40G 5400
drive, Win XP Pro)
to new case (and power supply), motherboard AOpen AX4SPE Max,
CPU Pentium 4 2.4GHz, 800MHz FSB, to improve gaming (first-person
shooters).

May get Radeon 9800 pro in a few months (after half-life 2 comes out) if the
price comes down or just 9600 pro if not.
In the future, I may also upgrade to a higher frequency CPU when the price
comes down.

Is P4 2.4GHz compatible with the AOpen motherboard (I have never built
a computer)?
Is there an obvious bottleneck in this plan that I can avoid?
Which component would be the bottleneck?

I want to improve the computer to enjoy the games better. But, I don't
want to pay a lot if I don't have to!

Thanks for any advice,

Navid

You're replacing the case, power supply, mobo, CPU and graphics card and
you're calling it an upgrade? To what, your floppy drive? :)

No diss intended, just tickled my funny bone.
