Advice on 2nd XP on same box

Hi,

I have XP Pro and it is grinding down in speed due to the biz progs I have on
it and I want to install another instance of XP on the same box so I can do my
quicker jobs with that without the slowness of the current XP drive.

I would like it on another full drive.

Can I do this and how would I go about it?

I am thinking taking the current XP out of my C Drive bay and putting the other
drive in and then setting up XP then putting the initial XP back to C bay and
the new XP into another bay. Is that correct or is there a better way?

Also could I later use the new XP as the primary XP is I decided to put all my
progs on the new one?

Thank for the help.

you can leave the
current c drive alone
and add the new disk
as a secondary disk/slave.

then insert your windows
cd and setup the o.s. onto
the new disk.

carefully read the setup
screens to ensure you
select the right disk/free
space it searches for.

afterwards, the setup
will produce a dual
boot menu which will
allow you to select
either o.s. to launch.

later you can tweak the
boot.ini file and rename
the descriptions to something
like old win. and new win.

Thank you I'll give that a go.

Of course you actually need two licences to run two instances of winxp on
the same PC, and you may have problems activating winxp.
Installing properly written apps should have very little impact on
performance, attempting to run multiple apps at the same time might have an
impact if your hw isnt up to it

Give us some specs of your machine.....also HD size and how much is free.
You just might end up with 2 Slow OS ...one on each drive......
You gave us no info other than its running slow......
By installing another HD and then XP Pro onto that HD you still would need
to reinstall your programs for them to run off the 2nd Installation....by
the way its called a dual boot...yes you could just reinstall them into
their original folders but then would they still run slow???
A lot of wasted time and your back to square one..
