Advice Needed. Upgrade to XP Pro?

I have Windows XP Home Edition installed on 6 machines and recently had the
need to password protect shared folders. I know it is impossible to do this
with Home Edition and possible with Pro. Also like the Remote Access,
(terminal services), aspect of Pro.

I'm wondering if I should upgrade all of my computers to Pro, just those
that contain folders/drives I want to password protect/run terminal services
on, or keep Home Edition and go with third-party software.

Also, would love to hear thoughts on the best upgrade method from Home to
Pro Editions, (i.e. should I buy individual software for each computer or
maybe there is a better method). Thanks, Ray

Hi Ray,

XP Pro uses a set of permissions to control access to shared folders, not
passwords. This works best in a domain environment where user groups are
defined. In a workgroup (home network), either the folder is shared to all,
or it is private.
