Advance Field

I am trying to use the Advance field to advance to a
particular line - not up or down by points relative to
where I am but to a designated line number. Can this be
done?

Advance fields are for controlling the position of text, not for moving the
cursor.

What are you actually trying to do? -- click in one place in the document to
jump to another?

Advance fields were included in Word for compatibility with WordPerfect,
where they are actually usable. I've given up hope that Word will put a
usable front end on this field to make it as easy to use as fields such REF,
XE, and TOC. Generally speaking, positioning in Word is better achieved in
some other way.

Indeed. Even the Advance field documentation recommends against using it.
