Not sure if this is the right newsgroup to post this message to but..

I am considering getting a NetGear DG834 ADSL Firewall Router for my ADSL
connection. Please can anyone give me any feedback on this product.

I want to be able to browse the internet, upload my website via FTP, use ICQ
and Email through this device, as well as share the internet to the other
computer on my home network.

Many thanks in advance

Russell

I am using a Linksystem router to do this. You just hook it to the phone
line and run one cat 5 wire to each computer. I did not bother to set the
router up to start with but just turned it on and then the two computers
hooked to it. The computers act just like the router is not in the line.
To share ther files and printer with each computer is no trouble either.
Just enable the file sharing for the drives on the computers you want to
share with. Later you can set up the firewall and other things with the
router.

I have an 834
it's brilliant
easy to set up and configure, just follow the wizard and no tech questions
my s/w firewalls on my PCs (five) have effectively become redundant as
everything is stopped at the Netgear box now. Still have them but they no
longer pop up every day and fill the logs like they used to.
I also use the wireless and wired sections - the WEP security was easy to
set up too - I had no previous experience with wireless.
DHCP is fine but the best feature is the NAT, which is seamless and allows a
lot of things I had to tweak on my old s/w firewalls
