Hi,

I'm planning to intrduce the first Windows 2003 Domain Controller in my
Windows 2000 domain. As I understand, I have to run ADPrep/Forestprep and
ADPrep/DomainPrep before I introduce the firs 2003 DC. My question is from
where do I run these commands, from my current 2000 DC or from a new 2003
member server. Your response is appreciated. Thanks

They need to be run on FSMO master role holders, so a 2000 dc.

Thanks for your reply. After reading the article, I'm still confused, do I
run the ADPrep.exe located on the Windows 2003 CD media but from my 2000 FSMO
master DC?

run:
ADPREP /FORESTPREP on the w2k schema master (don't forget to enable schema
updates!)

ADPREP /DOMAINPREP on the w2k infrastructure master

Also, make sure that you follow the article exactly so that you have the
correct permissions/ group membership to modify the schema. A lot of
people miss that the first time they do this.
