I have a Hp Desk top pc I run win xp. I have been trying to down load a GE
phone instruction book . It takes me to the Adobe acrobate reader and will
freeze up. can you help me please. Do I need to update my reader, and how do
I do that? Thanks Betty

Open Adobe Reader. Go to Help/Check for updates now. 7.0 is a lot better and
much faster to load than 6.x was.

You might benefit from installing the latest version of Acrobat Reader.
Version 7.0.3 is the latest and has been rewritten from the previous 6.0
to only run under Windows XP/2000.
First you would need to uninstall any pre-existing Adobe Reader versions
from your PC. Many times you'll find several instances of different
versions.
They need to be uninstalled in descending order.

To do this:
Click Start, Settings, Control Panel (If not using Classic View, but
category
switch with the option on the left side of the panel). Open the Applet
called
Add/Remove Programs. A table will be built showing all installed
applications
in alphabetical order. Scroll through the list and locate Adobe Reader.
Find the highest version number, such as 6.0.3 and left click the entry to
select it (Turns Blue) - then click the Remove button to the right of the
listing.
Repeat this action for the next Adobe Reader until all versions are removed.
( A reboot may be required).

Download the full installation package (26.Meg) if you are on a broadband
connection. **Uncheck the add-ins they try to slip into the install
Adobe Toolbar
Adobe Photoshop Starter edition.

(This download should be the latest 7.0.3 version)

Once downloaded, double-click the file to start installation.

Alternately, you can download the software here, but requires that download
7.0 version and then download install updates 7.0.1, 7.02 and then 7.0.3

Turn off the setting within the reader (I think that it's under Preferences)
that makes it available as a plug-in for your browser. Then when you click on
a PDF link it will download as an ordinary file instead of open the reader in
your browser.

I just installed it over the top of version 6 with no problems whatsoever
and in my Add/Remove there are no other versions other than 7. During the
installation, it uninstalled 6. This way is A LOT easier than your method.

Thanks - just trying to cover all the bases.

It's probably a large file.

Try giving it ten or fifteen minutes to open the file.
