ADMT same domain names

Hi - we currently are running two Active Directory forests on seperate
subnets of our network. I've just been assigned the project of merging
the two trees together and was wondering if anybody knew if the ADMT
would work.

Both forests have the same DNS name but have different netbios names
and have co-existed without any problems for the past 3 years.

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Hi, you cannot create a trust between 2 separate forests with the same DNS
name. Nor can you do cross-forest name resolution.

Are these forest W2K3-Sp1? If so, you could rename one of the 2. That would
solve your problem.

Eric is generally correct. Another choice is a two-stage migration.
First to a domain with a different name then back to the
"other" domain.

You can rename a Win2003 (flat) domain if it is in the forest is at
Win2003 Forest Functional Level. Given this was posted to Win2000
that probably won't help you immediately.

the migration like ForestA with same name as forestb -> placeholderforest ->
ForestB with same name as foresta

Why do you need to migrate?

Most people who do this should be doing upgrades....
