I built 3 users profiles, myself, my wife, and "administrator"...then I locked the files for Administrator. Now the user login does NOT display "Administrator" as a sign-in option on the panel anymore.

The built-in administrator account is hidden by default when a User with
admin rights is created. Depending on your version of XP (which you don't
say), in Home, boot into Safe mode. In Pro, at the welcome screen, press
Ctl-Alt-Del twice, when a W2K style log-in box will appear. Type in
"administrator" (without the quotes) and leave the password blank unless you
know otherwise.

By the way, it is NOT good practice to use the built-in administrator
account on a daily basis. It is your ONLY way in to the machine (short of a
repair install) should any or all of your User accounts go belly-up. Create
a User account with Admin rights for daily use.

in your run box type

control userpasswords2

you should be able to see that account it it still exists,

maybe try to boot in safe mode (F8 at start up I think) you might be able to
log on that way too

Hi,

As mentioned by others, once user accounts have been created the
administrator account is hidden from view (in WinXP Home, you will see it
when you boot to Safe mode, in WinXP Pro you can access it by hitting
ctrl+alt+delete twice at the logon screen and typing it in). You can also
add it back to the list seen on the Welcome screen using TweakUI:

As all was mentioned, you should not use this account for day-to-day use, it
should be kept as a backup or failsafe, and only used when necessary.
