administrator password forgotten

Hello, I have forgotten the password to my administrator account on my
computer at home, now I cant make any changes, where do I go from here, do I
need to reformat the hard drive? and if so how do I do this? Please help me
I am not very conversant with computer procedures. my computer runs on XP

Presuming you refer to your regular account that has Admin status, this
is where the reserve, emergency account called Administrator comes in.
Boot, and for Pro, at the Welcome screen hit CTL-ALT-DEL twice and enter
the explicit name
Administrator
and leave the password blank

Hopefully that will get in

In that, Start - Run the line
control userpasswords2
where you can select any account name and Reset Password
