Administrator account

My son changed my administrator account to a limited account. Now I can no
longer create user accounts, or make administrative changes. Is there a way
to log in as an administrator on Windows XP Professional without reformatting
my hard drive?

I would definitely change "his" account to a "limited" account.
Login under "hidden" "Administrator" account an reset yours and change his!!
Logooff your account. Press ctrl+alt+del New login screen should appear.
Type Administrator, then password. it is usually blank unless you or your
son has changed it. If there is none you may want ot create one possibly
different than your normal login. Create password recovery disk is a good
idea and hide from son.

Sound like you need a father/son chat.

I tried typing "Administrator," and then "password." This did not work. I
don't think that I have a hidden administrator account. What should I try
next? The only account that exists on the machine is my limited account.

Yes. there is an Administrator account.
Sorry I should have directed you to press F8 during boot up. then enter Safe
Mode. The Administrator Account will show up there.
Along within other Admin Accounts.

Shouldn't matter if you XP Home or Pro.

Hi ed, Try this:
go to the start menue and open the run command. Type in "control
userpassword2" without the " and make sure there is a space after control.
Then hit enter. A small screen will appear in which you will remove the check
mark next to "user must enter a user name and password". From there you can
go and clear all passwords and set your own. after that go back and re-do the
above and re-check the box which will once again secure your computer. Be
advised that kids learn an awfull lot of info from school and friends about
computer "hacking" and may already know this little trick. It is available on
the web when searching for windows tips and tweeks. You can find this info
also at a site called www.geekstogo.com .Please post back after you tried
this to let everyone know if this worked for you...edhalfdead
