Administrator access denied for Office 2003 update download

I have encoutered a problem using my Office 2003 and the problem report
generated states that an update is available to resolve this.

When I attempt to download the update I am denied access - contact the
administrator, which as you can guess is me and only me.

I have very basic knowledge of how to do things, so can somebody (in words
of less than one syllable) explain how I get my administrator rights back -
never encountered this using the XP software so completely at a loss as to
what to do.

Hi Den63

One piece of information you appear to be missing is that in Vista, even
though you are using an Administrator account, you are running with Standard
User privileges. This means that if you perform a function that requires
administrator privileges, you need to specifically elevate that function
with your administrator privileges.

This is accomplished using the User Account Control (UAC). When you perform
a function that requires administrator privileges, you should see a pop-up
message (from UAC) asking you for permission to elevate that function.

For your current problem, are you selecting to 'Download' the update or are
you selecting the 'Run' option from the download website? If you are
selecting the 'Run' option this could be the problem because you have no way
to elevate the install of the update.

What you need to do is select the 'Download' option, and download the update
file to your Desktop. Go to your Desktop, right click the downloaded file
and select the 'Run as administrator' option. Click 'Continue' on the UAC
prompt and the update should install.

Post back if you are still having problems.

Thank you for your help - in part it pointed me to reviewing my Admin access.
I unchecked the UAC admin protection and managed to get a little further into
the Windows Update site and now get the following errors page *

None of the associated links got me any further, and I still cannot download
Office updates.
