Administrative Tools Gone

Bud Curtis

I'm hoping someone can tell me what has gone wrong. When I bring up the
Control Panel I have an Administrative Tools folder. When I click on the
Administrative Folder it opens with nothing inside. I have Administrator
privileges so security shouldn't be an issue..

Can some tell me how to fix this? I know many of the tools exist on my
system. For example, I can right click on My Computer, select Computer
Management, and the Services and Applications folder can get me to the
Services application.

The Preconfigured Microsoft Management Console contains shortcuts to
these tool:

C:\WINNT\system32\Com\comexp.msc
%SystemRoot%\system32\compmgmt.msc /s
%SystemRoot%\system32\odbcad32.exe
%SystemRoot%\system32\eventvwr.msc /s
%SystemRoot%\system32\secpol.msc /s
%SystemRoot%\system32\perfmon.msc /s
%SystemRoot%\system32\services.msc /s

In the Control Panel just right-click Administrative Tools and select
explore then put shortcuts to those in the folder. I'm not sure why the
/s switch is on some of the tools but that's how it is on my box and I
don't have time to experiment and fid out. You can create your own MMC
Console if you want to replace the preconfigured MMC or you can add
other items to the the MMC. Search help on your pc of the Microsoft
Knowledge Base for more information, just search for mmc or type mmc in
the "Run" command box to start an mmc session. To find MMC tools search
for *.msc on your system drive.

Also, even though you are the Admin, make sure you haven't denied
yourself access to the items or the folder in a GPO, probably not since
you can't use the tools from the My Computer shortcut but who knows for
sure.
