Administration problem with limited logons on XP Home.

I am posting this again because I am just about given up on this problem...

I have four logons on a Windows XP Home computer; two have administrative
logons and work fine (for myself and my wife); the other two are limited
logons for my daughter and son but the passwords no longer working. Even if I
reset the passwords, the new passwords do not work. Also, if I create new
limited users the same problem arises. This happened recently, although I
cannot pinpoint the exact event that caused it because I have been playing
with both setting up a network and I had also been having trouble with
Windows Update not working and finally found a fix that worked.

Please help, before I do the unthinkable and allow my children permanent
administrative access - which is currently the only way they are able to get
access to their documents - and the only way I can think of to give access
back to them on a permanent basis. Any other suggestions will be gladly
tested.

Many thanks in advance...

Can you explain in detail what you see - in other words - what you mean by
"passwords not working"?

Generally, the screen offered the "Have you forgotten your password" prompt.
but on occasion the screen went black and the message was (I think) "You do
not have permission to logon at this machine".

However, I had setup a second machine with similar permissions and was not
having any of these problems with that one so last night I saved the registry
on the bad machine and was comparing and changing a couple of what looked
like appropriate registry entries between the two machines and something must
have clicked because suddenly this morning everything seems to be working
fine. Unfortunately, like a dolt, I cannot remember what I changed. Can I
easily compare the saved .reg and the current .reg to at least get an idea of
which one might have been the faulty entry? I also seems that this fixed a
network issue I was having...
