Adjusting the MTU

I was having trouble posting on a website. So I lowered the default MTU
setting on my D-Link router (DI-524) from 1492 to 1420. It corrected the
posting problem, but created a new one. I could not reach anything
pertaining to Microsoft. Could not reach Microsoft.com, Hotmail, or sign
in with Windows Live messenger, and my email thru earthlink stopped
working. So I change it back to 1492 and all the above works fine except
for the posting on that one website. They have installed new forum
software and that is when my problem cropped up. Any suggestions of
something else to look at or do I just have to live with the fact that I
can't have both?

I would contact the site admin. They might not know about the
problem and would appreciate a heads up.

Worth a try.

I already had... they had no explanation even though some others were
reporting the same. Kicker was I could post from my work , but not at
home. Only difference in setup was router at home and different ISP's.
Ruled out it being an ISP problem by connecting directly thru my modem
at home and all worked well. I just happens once the router is entered
in the equation.

David,

Instead of lowering the MTU on your router, lower it on your computer first.
