Adjust busy-signal delay in Microsoft Fax

R

Richard

I am trying to FAX to a location where there is a single incoming phone
line that is connected to a Voice/Answering Machine/Fax redirection
device. The problem is that I initiate a fax, which starts the timer.
The phone rings 4 times, then the voice message on the answering machine
picks up, then the redirection device takes over. All of this takes
about 31 seconds. Microsoft Fax disconnects after 30 seconds saying the
line is busy. I have been all over the web, news groups, etc. looking
for a way to adjust this delay value without success. My modem settings
show a 60 seconds time out but this setting does not seem to affect the
FAX side of the picture.

I am running XP-Pro and a U.S. Robotics 56K Fax/Modem.

Any help would be appreciated.

Regards,

Richard

Add a series of commas to the end of the number you're dialing. Each comma
will add a 2 second pause to the modem's operation, keeping the modem busy.
Add enough of these to keep the modem occupied until the redirector can
finish within the timeout period.

Hal,

It was a good idea but it did not work. I added 4 commas after the
number but the FAX MONITOR software began it's 30 second countdown
immediately upon activation without regard to the telephone number content.

I appreciate your suggestion.

Regards,

Richard
