Hello

Please help on this issu

I have 1 system installed with small business server 2000 as domain and another system with windows 2000 advance server and I am trying to make the windows 2000 advance server as aditional domain to the domain existing and I am not able to because it is giving this error " The following error occurred validation the name "domain name". This condition may be caused by a DNS lookup problem. For information about troubleshooting common DNS lookup problems, please see the following Microsoft Web site: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=517

The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted."

Multiple domains can't co-exist within a single logical network. If what you
are trying to do is to create a W2K child domain, you need to join the
domain as a member server. Then promote the W2K AS to act as a DC in the
original domain OR as a new DC in a new child domain. None of this can be
achieved if the DNS server that resolves the domain namespace can't be
located. No DNS resolution = no domain membership possible.

What you can't do is create a DC which generates a new domain and then
append the new domain to the SBS domain. The name of the domains are
irrelevent, W2K uses SIDs to identify users, computers and domains.
Additionally, if you could append domains at will, you would be suggesting
that i can install a DC and virtually append my DC to any domain on this
planet at will. Fortunately, that is not the case.

You do have another option.... trust relationships between 2 distinct
domains.

When you say Additional Domain do you mean an Additional Domain Controller?? If it is then all you really have to do is make sure that you have the correct IP Address of the DNS server listed under the DNS settings on your AS Servers NIC card before you attempt to DC Promo the Server. If your attempting to add a child Domain to your existing Domain then you need to follow Salt Peters' advice
