Before I have been able to type just www.whatever........... and IE would go
there, now I have to put http in front of www. What has changed????

Have you ugraded to the IE7 Beta 2?

If so, maybe it requires the whole address.

You don't have to put the whole address in the start -> run box to
bring up the site with IE6 for XP, so try it.

If you press Control key and enter after the main part of address the rest of
the address will fill in--www......com. It has always been like this. You
were evidently searching from the address bar and going directly to the page
in IE6.

What you are experiencing is a problem generated by an April 11 critical update.
