Address Bar and web pages

Up until last week I could just type in the web page that I wanted to go to
without having to type in http://www. and then it would automatically appear
followed by whatever webpage I typed in and I was able to go to that web
page. Now if I type in a web page (like microsoft.com) all that shows up in
the address bar is microsoft.com with no http://www. in front of it and the
system just sits there and does nothing for about 1 1/2 minutes. If I type
http://www.microsoft.com I am automatically taken to the microsoft page. How
can i get that functionality back? It was very convenient. Last week I
received (I think) the microsoft security update; could that be the culprit?

In IE, go to Tools>Internet options>Content tab>Auto-complete button (in
l-r). In the Auto-complete dialog box, be sure "Web addresses" is marked in
the section with the check boxes. (I was wondering why I had the same
situation.

This isn't always correct. If that box is checked, and it's an
address that you've typed before, (presumable "microsoft," in
this example) it will auto-complete. But if you type "abcde," it
won't add the http://www and the .com for you automatically
(assuming you haven't entered that URL before.

But if you type just the "microsoft" part of the URL, and press
CTRL-Enter instead of just enter, the http://www and the ".com"
are always added automatically, so typing "abcde" and pressing
CTRL-Enter gets you http://www.abcde.com

I found that out. Saving a copy of this for future reference,

Glad to have helped, Malv. By the way, haven't seen you in a
while.

Getting down there is a mess. Was much easier out at old Westside location
as it was only one bus which went by here. I'll show one day :)

Malvern: Thanks for answering. Unfortunately the check mark was already
checked, so I am still having the same problem.

I have the same issue, and also had the Auto-Complete checked for Web
Addesses. I tried the CTRL Enter and that does seem to work, so thanks for
that tip. In prior versions of IE, and even sometimes in this version of IE,
I didn't have to hit CTRL Enter, it just put it in for me automatcally, which
was great. By the way, it is very annoying, to have a nice feature taken out
of the product.
Thanks for your help,
