Address bar search stopped working

I've read a few posts from people having problems with
address bar searching. Typing in "whatever" into the
address bar gives "http:// whatever.com" instead of
search results.
I have run two spy and adware programs on my system and
everything is hunky dory, as well as reset web settings,
insured all internet settings were correct and nothing
seems to bring back my ability to search via the address
bar.
Does anyone have a suggestion on how to fix this?

Did you update the programs before running them?

See

http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each need to be updated before every use, even when just
downloaded.

If trying everything at that site does not fix the problem please post back
in the same thread.

Yes, I downloaded updates on my spyware, ran them and it
didn't help.
I did fix the problem by doing a system restore to about
two - three weeks ago and now everything's fine now.
