address bar search fails

I recently installed a security update and now I can't search from the
address bar.
I get "page can't be displayed". It goes to a
www.xxx site instead of displaying google results.

I tried restoring the advanced tool options
search but that didn't work either.

I also ran adware and cleaned up any spyware, but still no good.

Any other suggestions?

With IE open, go to Tools > Options > Advanced. Scroll down to Search. Check
"Just go to the most likely site." Click OK.

Please try the following:

Go to Toolbar -> search -> customize ->autosearch settings -> select search
provider of your choice (in this case, Google Sites) -> select 'just display
results in the main window' -> OK -> OK.

Close IE, and open, and try search from the address bar.
