Address Bar on IE6 Does Not Work

A

Art Vandelay

Hi. I'm using Windows XP Home with latest IE6 SP1 and all
patches. Somewhere along the way my browser lost the
ability to go to sites if you type them in or paste them
into the address bar. If I try, IE6 just searches forever
and eventually times out. But I can go to any of these
sites by just following a link.

For example, if I Google "Microsoft" and click the link
for Microsoft.com, it'll take me right there. But if I
try to enter "www.microsoft.com" directly into the
address bar, I get nothing. This is most frustrating. It
used to work fine so I'm not sure what went wrong. Any
advice?

Rule out parasites.

Try this: Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Browsing
Uncheck the Enable 3rd party browser extensions

If this clears your problem then find out who the culprit(s) is/are with
these tools.

Let AD-Aware Scan your system for advertising Spyware
http://www.lavasoftusa.com

and:

SpyBot-S&D

p.s Reset the 3rd party browser setting.

More: This may be caused by a third-party program (adware, spyware,
parasite).
Get AdAware and SpyBot and run them both. Keep them up to date.
