address bar missing in internet explorer

I read past problems on this subject but they don't solve
mine. My address bar disappeared. I went to View/Address
bar and it is checked. The lock toolbar is not checked.
Under the drop down of Address, there is nothing that
seems pertinent.
Any ideas?
