I recently purchased XP for my home, and was under the
impression that I could install it on more than one
computer if I purchsed an additional activation code from
Microsoft for a discounted price. Is there any truth to
this, and how do I do it if it is possible?
1) your CD key is not an "activation code". It is a "key" which enables you
to install XP using your CD.
2) you CAN purchase an additional license, which includes a CD key, from
Microsoft, for approx. 10%-12% less than the retail price.
3) you CAN purchase a COA at a reduced price, which MAY contain a license to
Windows XP and a CD key, which MAY enable you to use your current
installation CD to install XP on a second machine. But you must be careful,
and only purchase a CD key which is for YOUR type of CD:
a) if your current CD is a FULL retail cd, you must purchase a CD key
for a FULL RETAIL CD
b) if your current CD is a FULL OEM CD, you must purchase an OEM key.
