Google down again? Can't they keep that up?

How do I change a computer's description, name, or join a domain in Windows
XP Pro?

Shenan, thank you very much. After 1 hour and 15 minute googleing, I've
not found anything near as helpful as your link.
Appreciate your quick reply.

Try this(while connected to the Internet with ANY computer):

Open Internet Explorer (or the Internet Browser of your choice.)

Direct that Internet Explorer browser to:
http://www.google.com/

Once there, you will see a place to type in the middle of the window.. Type
the following there:

how to join a domain with Windows XP

Then click on "Google Search" (button below where you just typed.)

Although the first two links are not bad.. It's the THIRD one I gave you.

I realize it was third, but 1.25 hours and you didn't find that one..
Perhaps I should start a web page where I explain how to search for
information onthe Internet. A lot of people must phrase things incorrectly
or something. *grin*

No humor intended and I am having a good day - always do.

I just went to Google and typed in, as you put it:

"how to add windows xp to a domain"

Without the quotes, but with the exact phrase you put.. I now tried it on 4
computers and each time, the 5th in the list was the site I gave you
originally.

Google has a ranking system, so I assume it should be very similar for
anyone who does it. Do you click on the first link in the list and close
the google search or do you leave the search list open and openb the links
in a new window while you look through them?

I'm not trying to be a smart-a$$, I am not trying to treat you like a kid -
I want to know why I can find something like this and other people seem to
have trouble finding the same thing using similar methods. Is it the
phrases they are using to find the information? Are they putting quotes
around the searches, perhaps lessening the scope of their search too early,
are they closing the list window and researching each time with a slightly
dfferent phrase? I did nothing special to find it - I did exactly what I
told you I did. I also did nothing special when I went to google.com and
typed in the phrase as you gave it above - exactly as you gave it above
without any punctuation of any kind (quotes, periods, etc) and no
capitilization. I did it on the three networks available to me on one
Windows 2000 server, one Windows 2003 server and two Windows XP machines.
My results did not vary, I was able to scan through and determine that the
first 4 were not to my liking without even clicking on them - jusy by
description/link - then I tried the 5th one because it looked to be what I
needed - and I opened it in a new Window instead of letting it open in the
same window so my search remained up, in case it was NOT what I wanted.

Seriously - what are people doing different that the logical steps I just
laid out? Why, from a ranked site such as google, are you not seeing the
link I originally gave you:

Joining a Domain in Windows XP Pro
.... Reset Domain Admin Password in Windows 2000 AD. ... Latest Articles.
Windows XP SP2
Slipstreaming. ... Add Scanners and Cameras Icon to the Desktop in XP/2003.

As your 4-7th site in the list? Does Google work differently based on
browser, country, city, state, copmputer or something I am unaware of? What
is the deal, what am I missing. No humor here, no implication of a bad
day - it would be very hard for me to have a bad day since that would
require a state of mind that I don't have often - and haven't had in some
time - just a curious person tryig to determine why one thing works for them
and not for others and can what they do be shown to others so they too can
use the same "method" or "madness"?
