Adding second domain controller to existing domain

This is obviously trivial to most of you, but I'm having a
miserable time trying promote a server to a second domain
controller in an existing domain. I have followed
Knowledge Base articles 237675 (Setting Up DNS for Active
Directory) and 238369 (Installing an Additional Domain
Controller in a Domain Tree). I run the Active Directory
Installation Wizard and when I enter the full DNS name for
the existing domain I get an error message stating "The
domain cannot be contacted. Its name may not yet be
registered with DNS". I click on the Browse button next to
the Domain name entry box and the domain name I'm entering
is found. I then try going to My Computer Properties and
the Network Identification Tab to change the server from a
Workgroup to Domain Member, and when I enter the Domain
name I get an error stating "Error occurred validating the
name. The specified domain either does not exist or cannot
be contacted". I PING both computers and they are
communicating no problem. The administrator name and
password are valid, because when I tried changing them I
got an error message. The IP addresses for both computers
are static. I believe I've got DNS setup properly on both
systems as the domain is present in both Forward Lookup
Zones, although the instructions for doing so in article
237675 were as clear as mud (very confusing). I really
don't know what to do next as I've researched numerous
manuals with no success. I need to solve this to go any
further in my studies as I need the 2 DCs to get into
replication and other Active Directory activities. PLEASE
HELP!!! Thank you.

I answered you in the other newsgroup on how to fix this.

In the future its to your benefit and ours if you had cross posted this, and
not multi posted it. This way all you had to do was check just one of the
newsgroups you crossposted and you would have seen any responses posted from
any of the groups be sent to all that you cross posted. This way we can also
collaborate our efforts.

and didn't know cross-posting was available. I'm also not
sure how to accomplish that. Thanks for the advice.

If you need to post to multiple groups, it's best to crosspost instead, by
posting a single message to a handful of relevant groups (separate the NG
names with commas)
