Adding Office 2007 to Vista

C

cin

I have just purchased a Dell Vista Home Basic that doesn't have any MS Office
products. (It has MS Works) I have a CD with Office 2007 that I used with my
other computer that was XP and wanted to load MS Office into my new computer.
However, it lets me put in the product code key and says its ok, then
proceeds to the installation section.....then I get an error that says it
can't find: Office.en-us\officeLR.cab . Does anyone know what this means and
how I can fix it? I tried using the compatibility wizard but got the same
error.

Please and Thanks!

Is the Office 2007 an UPGRADE version?

If both of these PCs are not laptops then you need to purchase another copy
of Microsoft Office fro your new PC.
Each copy of retail Office is licensed per machines (with an extra license
available for use on a mobile device by the license holder when the main
machine is not in use).
So if these are 2 full PCs you need to buy that second Office license.
This is not like music that is on a CD that you can play on any player; you
install the software to a specific device and use it under the terms of the
End User License Agreement.

Your 100% correct about the EULA and what Office can be installed on. But
that doesn't answer his question about the error he is getting. I
personally have my full version Office 2007 installed on 2 Vista desktops
and had no installation issues. Now if Microsoft wants to come after me
thats up to them but I think/hope they have more pressing matters then me
and my 2 desktops.

the OP's post is unclear if he has an upgrade version of Office 2007 that
might be the issue.

Thanks Mike! Both machines are laptops. What does the error message mean? Am
I getting it because there are no MS office previously installed on the new
machine?

Mike and Dave,

I just tried to install it again using the Advanced Troubleshooting on the
MS site. I changed it to Compatibility mode using XP's SP2 but still get the
same message. The whole message is : "Setup cannot find
Office.en-us\OfficeLR.cab. Browse to a valid installation source and then
click ok." Then it gives me a normal browsing window with the CD as the
default address in "Folder". I have tried to change it to everything else,
but it tells me it is invalid.

Does that help???

Thanks!

Your still not telling us if your Office 2007 is an upgrade version or full
version, MS Works does not qualify for the Office 2007 upgrade version to
work.

Or simply download and install OpenOffice.org. No licensing issues at all
- you can install it where you damned well please for free. It's highly
compatible with MS Office, imports and exports MS Office files, and works
pretty much the same.

Office 2007 does not require starting or installing using XP compatibility
mode. It is entirely Vista compatible.

It seems to me that it is looking for an earlier version of MS Office which
you do not have.

Then you are using a pirated copy of Office as you are in direct breach of
the EULA.
It is exactly your sort of attitude that has resulted in the requirement for
WGA/WPA activation checks and the loss of significant revenues to Microsoft.
You are plain and simple a user and condoner of pirated software.

The OPs issues if related to use of an upgrade version would go away if they
went out and bought a full copy as they are required to do if they want to
have two PCs running Office

Cin look at the disk - it should say if it is an upgrade version.
If it is then you will need to buy a full version for your new laptop.

This is a known (sometimes) bug in the Office 2007 install.

Try copying the entire CD to a scratch folder on your hard drive and install
from there.

Blimey, Mike, steady on. You can install the Home and Student version on up
to three PCs.

If you people had actually read the EULA on Office 2007 you would have seen
that it may be installed on up to 3 computers at a time. I kn ow that this
is also true with Office 2003.

Suppose we didn't read it. Could we still use it on 3 machines?

Only for the Retail Home and Student Edition (not the OEM) where you only
get Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote and it may not be used for
commercial purposes.

Office 2007 may only be installed on 2 devices.
Office 2007 Home and Student can be installed on 3 devices

Ah! Then it's an OEM license and can therefore only be installed on
the original computer for which it was designed. You've run up against
Dell's anti-theft mechanism. You'll have to purchase a separate Office
2007 license for the second computer.

Maybe yes, maybe no. Let see. Just because it "came with" a Dell
computer, maybe it was a legit retail copy that was thrown in with the sale
(wishful thinking, I know). So, was the disk an MS disk with a holograph
and look like a retale disk with NO Dell markings? Did the register key
have the letters "OEM" embedded in it. These may be better clues then
accompanyment association. (guilt by association)
