adding new memory

I am using xp pro and am trying to install additional ram. Tyan S2380
Trinity k7 motherboard. The book says 3.3v 168 DIMM unbuffered SDRAM PC 100.
I currently have 128k and bought a KByte 128 PC100 and installed. Windows
will not install. I have a program AIDA that listed both ram chips as pc100
128k, but xp only shows one installed. I tried to only used the new 128k
ram, but computer would not boot. Tyan website gives the option of several
128k ram but the cost is above $174+ to purchase. Is there anything I need
to do to get xp or my motherboard to accept the additional memory. XP is
working ok, but solw with only 128K

It sounds like your new RAM stick is either defective or
incompatible with the motherboard, since the PC won't boot when it's
installed.

It is absolutely essential that any new RAM module(s) be fully
compatible with both the motherboard and/or any other RAM module(s)
already in the system. Additionally, there are sometimes jumper
switches on older motherboards that need to be reset for new RAM
configurations. Consult your motherboard's manual or the
manufacturer's web site for specific instructions and compatibility
requirements.

If you cannot lay your hands upon the computer's manual and the
manufacturer doesn't provide a support web site, you can use these
utilities to help determine the correct type of RAM needed:

SiSoft's Sandra

Belarc Advisor

Unlimited Possibilities' AIDA32

Also, Crucial Memory's web site (www.crucial.com) has a database
to help to find the right RAM for your specific make and model
computer and/or motherboard.
