how do I add music that is on a file on my computer and send it with a pps
via email when the recipient does not have the same file on their computer

If the music is in wav format, you can embed the music into the presentation.
If you are using other format, you can also try to convert the music into wav
format using sound convertor. By doing so, the music will be embedded into
the presentation (preventing the link from breaking) and you do not have to
email the music.
Check this out for embedding and converting information:

Alternately for non-wav format,
Create a new folder and move the ppt and music into the folder.
Now, open the ppt file, delete and reinsert the music to create a pathless
link.
Then, save your presentation.
Email both the presentation and music.

If the music is a wav a good way is to add as a transition sound on slide 1.
On the slide transition pane scroll down in the sounds box to other sounds.
This way the music will be embedded and play across slides. If you have an
mp3 use the free program CDex to add a riff wav header and then do as above.
