Adding in Hyperlinks

L

Lor

Hi There,

I have recently moved two webs to a new server and have
upgraded the server extensions to FPSE2002. The webs were
originally created in Frontpage 98, and I am now using FP
2002.

I have a couple of wee glitches that I hope someone will
be able to help with...when I try to insert a link to
another page within one of the webs I do not see a list of
all the files within the folder...I have selected
the "Existing File or Web Page " option and have
the "Current folder" selected, yet all I see is the file
that I am working on even though there are many other
files stored in this folder. A symptom of this is that I
have problems creating relative links ...

The really strange thing is that this problem only occurs
with one of the webs that has been moved over, and the
other web is fine...all the files are listed and I can
create relative links without any problem

Anyone got any idea what could be going on that I see this
problem on one web and not on another when both the webs
are part of the same root web and reside on the same web
server??

Thanks

Lor

You don't say how you "moved" them, but try opening the remote / live site, and then
recalculate hyperlinks.

Hi Steve,

I published all the files from the old server to the new,
and have reapplied the server extensions.

I have tried to recalculate the web, but I still see the
same problem. It seems strange that it will not list out
the file names when trying to insert a link. Could there
be a problem with the file permissions that is stopping
frontpage from showing the files?

Close FrontPage.

Do a search for files named *.web and delete all found.
Then search for *.tmp and delete all found.

Reopen FrontPage and the web and see if they show.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for getting back to me...I have found all the .tmp
files, and had to restart the server to be rid of them
completely, and there were no .web files listed. And
unfortunately the problem still persists...any other
suggestions??

Thanks

The web cache file are know type hidden system files usually found by typing below in your Windows Explorer address bar
%APPDATA%\Microsoft\Web Server Extensions\Cache

They are created / recreated any time you close a FP web/site
- so you definitely have them
- Set Windows Explorer to show all files

I have just retested inserting an image to this web...and
this will list out all the files and allow me to select
the graphic that I want...only when I check the html
coding the link starts "src="file://name_of_server"
instead of either http://name_of_server or just putting in
a relative path...

If you are seeing a link starting w/ file:// in a FP web, you are browsing outside of your FP web or you haven't saved the page yet
Always File Import images in your currently open FP Web/Site before using them

Thanks for getting back to me...I have now found and
deleted all .web files and have deleted all the .tmp files
I can find...and I still have the same issue. It must be
something to do with the server side of things as there
are three of us trying to access the site from different
machines...all using frontpage 2002, all able to browse
files within one of the subwebs and all can't browse this
one subweb.

Any ideas that I can try?
