adding gmail account problems

Im trying to put my gmail account into outlook 2003. I figured out the
outgoing server is stmp.charter.net (my isp) .... but the pop.gmail.com
incoming isn't working... or vice versa. This is the response I get. I
followed the instructions at the gmail web site to the T, and even double
checked it. :-(

Task 'pop.gmail.com - Sending' reported error (0x800CCC7D) : 'Your outgoing
(SMTP) server does not support SSL-secured connections. If SSL-secured
connections have worked in the past, contact your server administrator or
Internet service provider (ISP).'

Can you help me with this?

Check on the GMail help - the smtp server for GMail uses SSL connection, NOT
your ISP's smtp server.

You should use pop.gmail.com for incoming and smtp.gmail.com for
outgoing. You should have outgoing server requires authentication
checked, set to use the same settings as the incoming server.

I can't remember if it gives the information about which ports to use
on the same page as the other settings, but you should hit the Advanced
tab, set Incoming to port 995 (not the default) and check the SSL box
under that, then set outgoing to 465, and check the SSL box under that.

Those are the settings that I use, and they work for me.
