adding computer to workgroup fails

I am trying to add a computer to an existing workgroup
using XPsp2 and the process seems to have changed. I am
using a hub/gateway and am able to connect to the
internet and some networked resources, but I can't
browse the network or connect to the other windows
machines (or vice versa). I cannot ping this computer
even from itself. The wizard prompts me to make a
network diskette and load it on all the other machines
(something new) but I don't want to compromise my
existing network. Thanks for your help.

Try disableing the firewall for this on all machines, since you are behind a
router this will not hurt. Disable firewall or open port 110
