Adding a Windows 2000 Professional to a Windows 2000 domain

M

Mark Gould

When I try to add this machine to the domain, I get the
following

"The password does not meet the password policy
requirements. Check the minimum password length, password
complexity and password history requirements. "

However, on both my domain controllers, my local security
settings and default domain policy settings are as follows

Accounts Policies / Password Policy

Settings are the same for Local setting and Effective
setting

Enforce Password History: 0 Passwords remembered
Maximum password age : 0
Minimum password age : 0
Password must meet complexity requirements : Disabled
Store password using reversible encryption : Disabled

I've tried refresshing the security policy etc with no luck

Help

Thanks

Mark,

Please check your application log and make sure that your group policies are
applying successfully. Even though it appears that the password policy is
set correctly on your DC, it is possible that your DC is not applying the
group policy settings where as your Windows 2000 client is. From a command
prompt you can run "secedit /refreshpolicy machine_policy /enforce" to
refresh the group policy on the DC. The application log should show a blue
informational event of 1704 if group policy applied successfully. If you
get userenv and/or scecli errors, then the group policy is not applying.

I would also suggest that you open your default domain policy and check the
password policy settings just to make sure that they are configured
correctly.

Finally, if none of these steps reveal anything, please try rebooting your
domain controllers and see if that makes any difference.
