Adding a WiFi Adapter

I

Hi there,

I have to add a WiFi USB Adapter to my image, the component is "ZyDAS
Wireless LAN - USB" called on the Device Management "(ZD1201)IEEE 802.11b
USB Adapter".

I tryed to build a driver with the Component Designer but I get 2 warings:

Warning:[ZD1201_50U.ndi.NTx86]: cannot handle key "Characteristics".
Warning:[ZD1201_50U.ndi.NTx86]: cannot handle key "BusType".

So the USB WiFi Adapter doesn't works and I get the classic yellow "?" on
the Device Manager.

If I try to install the driver manually I get the Blue Screen Of Death.

Someone can help me?

Thanx

Donatello,

Some more info from you would be helpful:
- Did you try the driver on XP Pro? Did it work?
- What error message you saw on the BSOD screen?
- How did you install the driver manually?
- Did you satisfy all the driver dependencies? Use DependencyWalker tool.
- What happens if you just copy the driver file to appropriate windows directories? What SetupApi.log shows?

For the INF importer errors please see an earlier today's thread "Problem with importing .inf file".

Hi KM,
- Did you try the driver on XP Pro? Did it work?

Yes, it does works great.
- What error message you saw on the BSOD screen?

First I get a window:

SAS window: winlogon.exe - Application error
The instruction at "0x00ee1fab" referenced memory at "0x00000019". The
memory could not be "written".

then I get the BSOD saying:

STOP: c000021a {FATAL SYSTEM ERROR}
The Windows Logon Process system process terminated unexpectedly with a
status f 0xc0000005 (0x00000000 0x00000000).
The system has been shut down.
- How did you install the driver manually?

Yes, copying the files in Windows\inf Windows\System32\
Windows\System32\drivers and I get the BSOD
- Did you satisfy all the driver dependencies? Use DependencyWalker
tool.

I dunno, I used the DW and copyed all filez but nothing to do! :-\
- What happens if you just copy the driver file to appropriate windows

Alot of DLLs are not found, like Movi Maker but I not added this
application.
For the INF importer errors please see an earlier today's thread "Problem
with importing .inf file".

I read this post but nothing to do! :(

Hi,

I was having the exact same problem.
http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=...65atrWqEHA.3324%40TK2MSFTNGP15.phx.gbl&rnum=1

we tryed adding a Wireless USB dongle from Edimax (EW-7117U) that works with
the same driver that you described. I also got the yellow mark and the
message error code 10 the driver cannot start (I hope I remember correctly).
finally I managed to setup it manually using the "update driver" button in
the DevMgr and browsing to the INF location.
I also got the same BSOD: SAS... winlogon.exe..

with all my testings I coudn't find any solution to the problem but I did
found out that I only recieved the BSOD when I started Windows with the
Device pluged-in to the USB. if I started Windows without it and later
pluged it in, it recognized it and worked great, letting me browse the
wireless net freely.
I used the most updated binaries including all updates (including the USB
hub fix) and I also checked on the net and made sure my Zydas driver was the
most current available.

As I said, I didn't find any solution and we decided to change to a PCI
Wireless card instead of the USB that wasn't so important for our use.
You can try using the device from 3Com that Leonid described on the end of
my thread (above link).

Good luck!

Dear Yaron,

What kind of 3Com PCI card did you used? Did you have the XPE Driver?

Thanx?

Is this the 3Com® OfficeConnect® Wireless 11g USB Adapter ?

Hi,

We've finally used Edimax EW-7126 as a PCI solution. I used the XP Pro
driver with its OEM installer (didn't create any SLD for it).
The 3Com solution I meantion in my previous mail was used my someone from
the NG that replyed to my help request. I havn't tryed it myself because we
decided to reject the USB option. our reason was practically and not
technically based, because we only needed the WIFI for a custom-solution we
built for a small order and not for mass-production.

The 3Com solutions that were recommanded are:
3Com® OfficeConnect® 11 Mbps Wireless LAN USB (Product #: 3CRSHEW696)
http://www.3com.com/products/en_US/detail.jsp?tab=features&pathtype=purchase&sku=3CRSHEW696
3Com® OfficeConnect® Wireless 11g USB Adapter (Product #: 3CRWE254G72)
http://www.3com.com/products/en_US/detail.jsp?tab=features&pathtype=purchase&sku=3CRWE254G72
I believe that both b/g versions will behave the same.

At least I hope that I saved you some hours of frustration with this device.

Cheers,

YaronM
