I have tried to add a music file to an entire powerpoint presentation. For
some reason I can only add music to particular slides. Is there anyway that I
can start a song at the beginning of the presentation, and have it continue
to play until the end?

Try this,
Play sounds across multiple slides (A WAV runs through it)

I just did this. This works for inserting media clips from the gallery.
Insert the clip you wish to use onto the first slide of the show and select
the media icon (the horn). Go to "slide show" on the toolbar--select "custom
animation", then "multimedia settings". Select "play using animation order"
and "continue slideshow". Then adjust "stop playing after" box by putting
in the total number of slides in your show. Finally select "more options"
and under "play options" select "loop until stopped" and "okay".
