Adding a printer problem

Running XP Home and am trying to add a printer whose driver appears on the
drivers available list. I get an error message saying that the print spooler
isn't running. The printer is connected through the USB port.
I've looked in "Help" and can find no obvious answer.
I've looked at MSCONFIG and see no obvious print spooler.

How do I resolve this.

Help please

To start the spooler go to Start > Run and type
"net start spooler" (without quotes) and click OK.

*Why* the spooler was stopped may be more difficult to determine.

Thanks. I'll try it tonight.

May I assume that this will leave it running on restarts?

I tried your suggestion and a small black window flashes in teh corner of the
screen and then nothing. It didn't work as I'm still getting "spooler
service not running" when I go to Control Panel, printers, add a printer.

Any more ideas?

To see what's happening, open a Command Prompt window:
Start > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt
and in the window that opens type "net start spooler" (without quotes)
and press Enter. Perhaps there will be an error message explaining why
the spooler isn't starting.
