Adding a New DC

S

Sburt

When I use dcpromo to add a new domain controller in a
domain that only has one domain controller, I get the
following message.

"The domain (DomainName)is not an Active Directory
domain, or an Active Directory domain could not be
contacted."

How can this be resolved?

Thanks,

Steven

Please ensure that both servers are pointing to correct dns server. Make
sure that the dns zone is allowing dynamic updates and it has all the SRV
records created. You can point all the server to the first DC which can be
setup as DNS server and then make it AD integrated and set allow dynamic
update to yes and then perform
ipconfig /flushdns and ipconfig /registerdns and restart the netlogon
service. Then check if the new server is also registering in the dns and
start the dcpromo process again.
