I am trying to add a second DC via dcpromo and I cannot get it past the part
where it ask me which domain to add it to. I keep getting an error :

"Failed to find a suitable domain controller for the domain" and "The
specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted."

I have verified that "Server01" is indeed a domain controller by looking in
the Active Directory Users and Computers.

Can anybody offer suggestions?

First thing is to check the tcp/ip settings of the prospective new server
and ensure that it is configured to use the correct DNS server for your
domain... most likely this is the IP address of your SERVER01.)

And of course make sure you can ping SERVER01... by IP and by FQDN
(server01.domain.xxx)

That error is usually a result of a DNS problem. Verify that the server is
pointing to the DNS server that is responsible for your domains zone. The
DNS server must have the SRV records for the existing domain controllers.
