Probably not, because it's pretty straightforward. The default
network settings are compatible between 98 and XP.

If the XP LAN doesn't use default settings (e.g. if static IP
addresses have been assigned, or the IPX/SPX protocol has been added),
then make the same settings on 98.

It isn't necessary, but setting the workgroup name on 98 to the same
workgroup name that the XP LAN uses will make finding other computers
a little easier.

Many times I have seen on the 98 side when one tries to access
a share, a prompt will come up asking for an id and password.
Does this mean that the XP machine has to have an id and password
that the 98 side has to match? If everyone XP and 98 just does
share access, does this mean that you don't have to worry about
keeping close track of id's and passwords?

My scenario is two XP Home machines and I am adding one
98 box so that any machine can access any other machine.

You're welcome, Charles. Matching ids and passwords aren't needed
when networking with XP Home. They might be needed, under some
circumstances, when networking with XP Professional.

Right out of the box, XP Home isn't fully set up for file sharing.
Running the Network Setup Wizard on XP Home completes the setup.
After that, the only reason that XP Home would cause a password prompt
would be that you've explicitly defined a network password for the
Guest account on XP.

make sure you're using "simple sharing"
