You can use the netdom.exe utility in a batch file to improve the
scriptability of domain joins.

Netdom is in the support tools folder on your Windows CD.

If you need help scripting around this tool, I'd recommend a trip to the
microsoft.public.win2000.cmdprompt.admin newsgroup. Also, groups.google.com
has an archive of previous posts to newsgroups, so it's worth looking there
first.

I have a question about adding a win 2k professional machine to the domain
is there an interactive script upon executing it should ask for the domain
name and also register it in the Active Directory is this possible and if it
is i would like to know the link from wehre i can get that script that makes
life so easier..

You should be able to add that pc to a domain by going to:
1. right click the "my computer" icon on your desktop.
2. select the "network identification" tab.
3. you will have choice to "rename this computer or join a
domain, click properties.
4. select "member of:" and check "domain" and enter the
name of the domain you want to join.
