Add to custom dictionary is grayed out

When working in Word, I cannot add new words to my custom dictionary. I am
able to do it Microsoft Mail.

That did not help but I did delete the old dictionary and created a new one
and then edited the new one in notepad with a paste from the old one. That
worked.

The old file had come from my old computer which used Office 2002. That may
have been the source of the problem.
