Add / Remove Programs list & wrong icons

I have looked all over the newsgroups and I have yet to find an
answer. Does anyone know why an incorrect icon is displayed for
certain programs under the Add / Remove Programs list? For example,
three of my installed Critical Updates have the icon for Dark Age of
Camelot instead of the usual default windows installer icon (monitor +
cd-rom package). I know how to manually go into the registry and use
displayicon to assign an icon path, but why is this happening to begin
with? Is this a known issue or bug? When I uninstall the DAOC game,
the icons go back to the default windows installer icons for the three
Critical Updates installed with the wrong icons, but reinstalling the
game somehow changes the icons back to the DAOC icons. Any ideas?
Thanks!

Morad.

Hi, I have the exact same problem as you have encountered. I realised the problem when I installed Windows XP Updates recently. This really irritates me, and I would gladly like to know how to recover original icons. Thanks.

I now know a way to solve the problem BUT because it's Windows Update Patches that have the incorrect icons, where can i find the installer icon (e.g. Computer with Software Box and Disc). Thanks.

Maybe related problem, but I seem to be missing some of the icons in Control
Panel; specifically, those located in the User Account window and the "Learn
About" dialog box (used to be little pages with a blue "?"). With all the
icon discussion, I'm wondering if I'm missing others...
