I'm running Windows XP Professional and just recently i've
lost the ability to print. I believe after one of the
microsoft updates the add printer wizard stopped working
and my printer just disappeared. I've tried starting the
spooler but it didn't work and everytime i restart my
computer, the print spooler remains unstarted, even after
i set it to automatically start. I don't know what to do
and i've tried everything. When I open the add printer
wizard it says "Operation could not be completed." and
nothing else. I tried adding the printer through the add
hardware wizard but when i did it gives the error of "The
specified port is unknown." after instalation. I've also
tried deleting all dll files from the systemroot, which
didn't work and then tried replacing twain.dll,
twain_32.dll, and vmmreg32.dll with fresh copies from the
cd.

I think I'm having the same problema as you... I can't
seem to print and it keeps coming up with error messages

I've got the same problem. I can't use the print wizard
and plug and play fails to load the printer properly.
Has anybody found a solution?

Same problem. Tried all hints from knoewledge base but
still stuck. Any help?

Cari,

Hang around with forums and here many days but no solution solved. Will
reinstall from beginning when coming from trvelling, but really fed up with
net start spooler, uninstall printer driver, registry modification, delete
files in spool folder, blah blah. Something wrong here, all it doesn't work.
Frustated when in need of printing for business but stuck.
