Add or Remove Programs glitch

The Add or Remove programs listing has developed a large gap in the
middle....the list starts and goes about half way and then blank for
at least five times the scrolling until the second half of the list
shows up. Once in a while it is OK and it doesn't seem to be causing a
problem...but it is annoying and it is not what it should be.

Any ideas what might be causing this and how it might be fixed?

Thanks for any suggestions.

I just looked at that article, or tried to do so. It downloaded and
when I tried to open it NAV said it contained a malicious script so I
went no farther. This has happened once or twice with downloads from
well known reputable sources and I really doubt there are malicious
scripts in them.

Have you any idea what is going on in this case.

Thank you.

Before running a repair script, turn-off or disable your
antivirus program. A good antivirus program will prevent
running any scripts. If you have any doubt about the integrity
of a script, run a virus check on the script file before
executing it.

I went to Kelly's site before but didn't see that script fix.
Downloaded it, disabled virus scan, executed script...and it crashed.
Wscript.exe reported an error and shut down.

So, found a fix that I cannot use. Now I have another problem that is
new to me...a problem executing what is probably a good script. Any
ideas on my next step???

Hi,

This edit depends on which program it is. If Auto-Cad, run it. If not,
make note of the last program listed and where the next begins and delete
the last one listed from here: Start/Run/Regedit

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\
CurrentVersion\Uninstall

Other than that, if it has a negative sign in front of DisplayIcon, remove
it.

I was not sure this post was directed exactly to my post above...but

I deleted the program that was in the add/remove list just above the
white space and it solved the problem. Don't need the program so no
loss.

It still doesn't really answer why the script wouldn't run if it was
to remove a registry entry...which presumably the removal of the
program also took care of. Is this true or is the script not running a
separate problem?

Henry,

There are two different posts in this one thread. Jack stated that he
received a warning message which is common and explained on the top of my
Tweaks page.

You haven't mentioned from what I have read that you couldn't run the
script. IF you are stating that running the script hadn't removed the issue
at hand, that is because it did not pertain to Auto-Cad as I stated in my
reply.

Three topic in this thread related to my situation. First, either in
your site or in one of these threads, the suggestion was to remove the
last program in Add/Remove just above where the white space starts.
The second was to execute the script. The third is that the script
crashed my wscript.exe applet.

The fact that the script crashed the applet also meant it didn't work.
But the removal of the last program did. Now...

Why did the applet crash, regardless of whether the script would have
been effective or not...which is now moot. Any help would be
appreciated.

I have no idea, Henry. Explain in detail what you mean by:

I have never had Auto-Cad installed my system, have never had the white
space problem and "can" run all three of my edits without issue:

autocadaddremovefix.vbs
autocadarfix.vbs
autocadfix.reg

On a side note: They do work and have helped many.

Crash is what happens when Windows throws up a box that says that the
executable caused wscript.exe to fail and that it had to be closed
down. I am sure your autocad* programs work. However, if I should have
had all three of these files, I did not. The file I downloaded had the
first of your files and an autocad.ico file. Double click on the vbs
and it crashed wscript.exe. QED it never executed and therefore my
add/remove problem remained...until I took out the program showing
just above the white space.

Henry

Henry,

I appreciate your detail and feedback, but that is a very old script dated
July 1st. Have no idea how you would have come across that script much less
applied it in October. That said, during 'that' testing period, no results
as yours were found. Nevertheless, glad you have it all sorted now.
