"Add a Printer" does not list USB port

When using the "add a printer", I see no port listing for
USB although, oddly enough, when a USB printer is present
the OS still detects it. Why does this happen, and how
can I get USB listed as an eligible port?

USB is a "Plug and Play" bus and therefore Windows can detect when a printer
is attached and it can identify the type of printer that has been attached.

USB ports only show up when a printer is attached to the USB bus. There is
no way to get a USB port to show up if a USB printer is not attached.
