AdAware 2007

R. McCarty

Recently, I've noticed several issues related to the new AdAware 2007.
My boot time significantly increased after installing the latest version.
I've
had a few issues related to the AdAware service ( aawservice.exe ) not
starting or experiencing abnormal stops.

Today I was updating my copy of AutoRuns.exe and noticed a new
entry in the Boot Execute section - Isdelete.Exe. Did a little research on
this and decided to temporarily disable the call to Isdelete.Exe at boot.
Interestingly, my boot time decreased from ~63 seconds back to it's
more normal 38-Seconds.

While I'm not at this point to uninstall Ad-Aware, I'm not very happy
with the changes. This new version is way too convoluted to update and
has a unusually long lag time when it goes off to check for updates.

Anyone else having issues with Ad-Aware 2007 ?

I, too, run AdAware 2007 on my computer (along with several other
spyware/malware type detectors) and out of curiosity, I ran a complete
search - hidden files, system files, etc. - for "isdelete.exe" It is
not on my computer anywhere. Are you sure the boot slowdown caused by
isdelete is an issue with AdAware itself?

Reasonably sure. I took an Image of my system volume before I made
any changes. Earlier I had taken a stop watch check of the boot time &
it was ~63 seconds. Actually I also took a BootVis run to see the times
for boot/driver/startups & watchdog times.
After I disabled the IsDelete.Exe call with AutoRuns I did another time
check with the stopwatch and BootVis and both confirmed a completed
boot at 39.2 Seconds. Actually looking at the Trace log with BootVis it
showed a completed boot cycle at 34 Seconds.

Nothing else was changed except for the call to IsDelete.

Not a big issue, but I really dislike all these programs adding new features
that don't really return a true benefit. Ad-Aware was fine in it's earlier
form and the new one is just more "Bells-&-Whistles".

Using Freeware version gives no similar entry in Boot Execute section.

Hope this helps.

I agree with that. I don't let any of the "antispy/malware"
programs start at boot up and run in the background (except Norton and
my firewall)- I run them proactively in rotation, usually one a day, and
I update them weekly. Letting one - or worse, several of them - run in
the background just causes annoyances at best, and outright trouble at
worst. The aspects of the programs that cause the most annoyances are
invariably the "add-ons" that the program didn't have initially, and
usually didn't need, in my view.

Yep, it's in my freeware version, as to a slowdown in boot times there has
been some although I have not disabled Isdelete to see how much faster the
system boots.

One piece of info I located was in the following thread,
( Last Entry ).
http://forums.tweakguides.com/showthread.php?t=6318
I just checked my system and there is no file named IsDelete.Exe.
Not sure if it's from an earlier version of Ad-Aware 2007 or how
the Boot Execute call was generated. Anyway my machine is
better off without the call to it.

I'm running Ad-Aware 2005. I uninstalled Ad-Aware 2007. The Ad-Aware
2007 has poor ratings and does not catch some of the major critical
malwares.

Every time that my computer boots, I get 'lsdelete not found' after having
removed AA 2007..

What is the first character of the file name? You have typed the numeral
one whereas others have it as the letter I -upper or lower case!

I have no intention of re-installing Adaware 2007.. this is how to eliminate
the boot up message.. taken from a forum, btw

Uninstall ADAWARE 2007 from add/remove programs

Manually remove LAVASOFT folder in Program files

Go to START, ALL PROGRAMS, ACCESSORIES, RUN

Type in REGEDIT

Search for LAVASOFT and manually delete any LAVASOFT entries

Click on EDIT and then FIND

Type in BOOTEXECUTE and then search and open the entry

Manually edit the entry and remove the information for LSDELETE

Do NOT change any other AUTOCHECK information

RESTART computer and all will be back to normal

I'm still using 2007, but used AutoRuns to remove the IsDelete call.
When I have some time, I'll try and do a little more research on why
this Boot Execute call caused my boot time to increase by ~24 sec.

I do not understand all that you said but boy when it comes to Ad-Aware 2007
I know you nailed it on the head. Have been a long time user of it and
bought the Ad-Aware Plus long ago when it came out at the suggestion of the
AumHa board. I know it is a good program but the 2007 never shows me anything
that I understand and has more of a "user-friendly" upfront view of itself
but because of that I never see what it is saying or doing .. and as opposed
to the 2006 version .. there is always something now running with this
version. My Scottie dog reflects this in my services that are always running
and I never saw this in the 2006 version. I also have autoruns.exe I think
... yep I do .. by System Internals .. but then I also have RunAlyzer.exe by
SpyBot. Don't know how to read either of these programs that well .. but hey
... I am a struggling, floundering, trying-to-hold-on-to-my-sanity computer
runner and ... okay .. will shut up. Just needed to second your input about
Ad-Aware.

If not Ad-Aware 2007 .. then what?
Also since you were so informative about uninstalling Ad-Aware 2007 .. do
you know how I might uninstall Ad-Aware 2006 Plus? I had it on my computer
before I installed the new 2007 download .. and it is the bought version ..
but when I click the uninstall exe in the folder .. it looks for a
install.log that I do not have on my computer ... don't need the extra
program .. don't know how to go about ferretting it out. I have plenty of
programs that reveal the add/remove statistics of my computer .. SpyBot ..
Ccleaner .... more I am sure .. just don't know how to do it. Yes obviously
I sometimes don't understand the lingo in the forums .. but I can understand
pretty much if you write it out like you did the uninstall you just wrote
out. Thanks ... with a meek expression but there are no faces at this forum,
right? I have WinXPSP2 and am MSN subscriber since beginning.

I thought Mike-MVP wrote out this:

"Manually edit the entry and remove the information for LSDELETE"

He did. Did that not refer to the program you guys are talking about. That
you say is IsDelete.exe?

G

Guest

oh oh ... there it is .. yep I have it .. this is where it is and it is only
8 KB big
C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsdelete.exe
A DOS program .. right? okay .. so should I run ccleaner on it?

G

My response to myself ... because I am slow to the realization that I guess I
can disable this program thru the Autoruns.exe that was mentioned earlier ..
even perhaps delete it from there ... but .. I do have the paid version of
Ad-Aware 2007 ... how can it be that it is not up to par any longer? I read
the post from the end from the person who is using Ad-Aware 2005 ... don't
tell me you are using a version so old that ... well how can it update the
definitions files? SpyBot is great I realize but I run that too. And of
course Norton Anti-Virus. Okay I know this thread was not about security but
it is so consuming to be constantly having to monitor how many program to
monitor the computer .. never even get to use the computer .. always talking
about how to keep it clean or fix it. This sucks .. forgive my English.

I came here to this microsoft.public.inetexplorer looking for the latest
version of Internet Explorer. Here is another problem .. my Ad-Aware user
rules says that I am running 2 versions of Iexplore.exe ... with different
MD5 checksum numbers. So I use my file alyzer from SpyBot and I search all
of the Iexplore.exe on my computer .. gosh darnitt .. I just can not believe
why do we have to have so many frigging layers of programs on WinXPSP2 .. ..
is this really necessary. Why can't downloaded newer versions just
overinstall on top of the last version. Here I have like 10 Iexplore.exe
files and not one of them has the MD5 checksum numbers that Ad-Aware says
apply to the two versions of Iexplore.exe that are supposedly running ... and
are listed in my "user rules".

Not only that .. when I go up to Tools on my Iexplore bar to check the
version running .. well it is NOT the latest version of the Iexplore.exe that
I have on my machine!

And finally .. and I sure wish that someone here would take perhaps a PayPal
fee from me and help me specifically with these problems .. because searching
out how many forums and how many postings to get answers on these specific
problems will be the whole day and I can't and won't do it and so just
everything builds up.

Well anyway finally .. the minute I was hedged into using Windows Live Mail
... from what was long ago my MSN email program that morphed into MSN
Messenger email program and both of those came with MSN Explorer always
running ALONG with Internet Explorer ......... as I was saying .. . the
minute I was hedged into downloading the all new beta version of Windows Live
Desktop Mail which now is Windows Live Mail .. which is supposed to take over
Outlook Express and which is supposed to be the latest MSN email software ..
I guess .. unless you have Office 2007 in which case I guess you are running
Outlook with MSN email in there .. and like I said I am a paid subscriber to
MSN Premium since the beginning but am lost now because MSN Explorer seems to
have disappeared in the last couple of days on my machine as I try to run
Windows Live Mail but barely can get it to start every day ... Are we still
supposed to be running MSN Explorer? And what is the latest version of
Internet Explorer and shouldn't that be in this newsgroup. Speaking of which
... newsgroups are supposed to display in Windows Live Mail. Right?

So are you guys viewing this thread in Windows Live Mail?

Please some response to these above questions would be highly appreciated
and will even pay thru PayPal!
