Hello,

I have a help desk person that needs access to user
accounts but I would really prefer not having her log into
the DC's to do this.

I recall in NT4 there was a way to create a shortcut to
the user manager so help desk personnel could access the
user accounts.

Can this be done in Win2K?

We are on AD.

Thanks!

Make a shortcut to dsa.msc.

Search the Disk for all the .msc files.

Thanks.

Do I need any other files? The snap-in is failing on my
XP Pro machine - I'm the admin.

Did you install the adminpak or did you just copy files from another machine?

Building on what Joe said...you need to install the Windows Server 2003
Administration Tools on XP even though your domain is Windows 2000.

Hope this helps,

Paul.

Thanks for the additional info.

I just created a shortcut to the .msc file.

Wouldn't installing the admin tools on my help desk' pc
kind of nullify the want of limiting what they can do? Or
would the admin tools still be governed by the AD rights,
i.e. she can't modify the schema because she's not a
schema admin?

Yes, what someone can do should be limited by what rights they have in AD, not
what tools they have in their hand. Otherwise you will have no clue what people
can do.
