AD Users and Computers

I believe I may have posted this in the wrong area prior:

I have an Exchange Restore Forest that I use to conduct mailbox restores. I
have created a MMC shortcut that includes: AD Users and Computers and
Exchange System Manager. I noticed that when I click the AD Users and
Computers I get a message: Naming information can not be located: the server
is not operational. However, I can right click and connect to my preferred
DC...and, all is well with the world. I'd like to set it so that the
preferred DC is automatically selected when I use my MMC shortcut. How can I
do this?

Usually you will get that message if the GC is not available or there's a
DNS misconfiguration.

How many DCs are in the restore forest?
How did you create the restore forest?
Did you use Ghost, system state restore, or a new installation in a totally
new forest?

If Ghost or system restore, and there are other DCs that existed in the
production forest, it may be looking for one of them. If so, did you perform
a metadata cleanup to purge their references and ensure the new DC holds all
the FSMO roles and is a GC?
